Jewellery?

This morning dass received an email in which a bhenji who is launching her new site sent a link and info. Normally I probably would have had a look and that would have been the end of it but this site got me thinking. The email described it as:

Journey through the Khalsa Collection of symbolic Sikh Jewellery

& Accessories, Malas,T-Shirts and Home Accessories.

Khalsa collection Sikh Jewellery?? My first issue is Sikh jewellery and the fact that I remember a while back when a model donned a kind of dastar and had a khanda we had up roar I remember the article on Panthic Weekly. Now to specify that it is Sikh jewellery when it doesn’t really have association with Sikh dharam. I think calling it Panjabi would have been more fitting and would not have caused any problems.

I visited the web site and what did I find but the banner for a site selling "Sikh" jewellery has a Hindu Aum sign in its banner just bellow Ik Oankaar [http://www.pavanalifestyles.com/lifestyle.php]. If we call something Sikh then the minimum we can do is keep it some what Sikhi.

Just some thoughts. What do you guys think?

Insecure?

I was thinking are Sikh girls a little insecure and they needing a lot of reassurance or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. I was trying to figure out why girls run of with idiot guys like Muslims who want to convert them.

Happened to a girl in my class who is going out with a Muslim when I talked to the bhenji she went all cold and stopped talking to me next day and now I'm enemy of the state. No joke !

A lot of the time the guy comes and asks a girl on a date and compliments her and she's all his she thinks she is in “love.” Unfortunately a lot of these girls later realize there mistake when its to late and then they live in regret. This happens more often then we would like to believe.

A lot of friction in the house is also due to insecurity and lack of respect we have for our parents which builds up tension and leads to rebellion.

Big Brother Shilpa Shetty Racism?

I wouldn't have normally bought this subject up but it’s all over the news at the moment.

At the moment in UK channel 4 is airing Celebrity big Brother which is basically unknown celebrities (if you can call them that) whose carriers have come to an end are locked in a house and watched 24 7. This time they chucked in a bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. (Again I don’t know much about Shilpa Shetty as I don’t follow bollywood).

Rows have been breaking out this week with complaints poring in from start of this week to the independent regulators (ICT) and channel 4 the producers that Shilpa Shetty is facing racism other house mates mainly 3 women. This morning I was watching news and saw clips of the celebrities saying, "she can’t even speak English, and "she should go back home."

At the start of this week I didn’t consider what was going on as racism but after today’s news report I thought to my self if someone said "go back home" to me in the street I would class it as racism. Its interesting that its broken out all over the news and even in parliament with the future wannabe prime minister, Gordon Brown speaking out as well. Living in UK and London I think this is a wider under lying problem. Living in diverse area such as London I feel I face less of this then another singh may face living in place such as Scotland where you would find more frequent racism.

Some say its just clash of culture and class, well I think its partly that and partly fact Jade is uneducated.

Saints And Sinners

I came across this, intresting read.

When somebody yields to temptation
And breaks one of man's or God's laws,
We look for no good in his make-up,
But oh! how we look for the flaws!
No one cares about how he was tempted,
Nor praises the battles he's fought;
His name becomes food for the jackals --
For us who have never been caught. "He has sinned!" we shout from the house-tops,
We forget the good deeds he has done,
We focus on that one lost battle,
And forget all the times he has won.
"Come, gaze at the sinner!" we thunder,
"And by his example be taught
That his footsteps lead to destruction!"
Cry we who have never been caught.

I'm a sinner, O Lord, and I know it,
I'm weak, I blunder, I fail.
I'm tossed on life's stormy ocean
Like ships embroiled in a gale.
I'm willing to trust in Thy mercy,
To keep the commandments Thou'st taught,
But deliver me, Lord, from the judgement
Of saints who have never been caught!

Before I was myself you made me.

Before I was myself you made me, me
With love and patience, discipline and tears,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,

Allowing me to sail upon my sea,
Though well within the headlands of your fears.
Before I was myself you made me, me

With dreams enough of what I was to be
And hopes that would be sculpted by the years,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,

Relinquishing your powers gradually
To let me shape myself among my peers.
Before I was myself you made me, me,

And being good and wise, you gracefully
As dancers when the last sweet cadence nears
Bit by bit stepped back to set me free.

For love inspires learning naturally:
The mind assents to what the heart reveres.
And so it was through love you made me, me
By slowly stepping back to set me free.
